Guitar Classes New Jersey


The Taalim School offers beginner level acoustic guitar instruction in the Western classical tradition. Guitar classes emphasize basic musicianship which can be applied to any style of music. Proper physical mechanics, score reading, music theory and repertoire are the main subjects. In general the focus will be Western Classical music, but popular music including Hindi film songs can also be incorporated depending on the student’s interest and/or goals.

Guitar classes are offered in a group, semi-private, and private setting in Central New Jersey.

  • South Brunswick, NJ | Wednesdays | evening



A guitarist with cross-genre sensibility, Misha Fatkiev is a sought-after guitarist with a distinct and rhythmic style of jazz, funk and world music.  As a member of The National Association of Music Education, Misha has over 10 years of teaching experience.

In addition to teaching at Taalim School, Misha is currently the main jazz guitar instructor at The Rutgers University Extension Division and the guitar instructor at the Pingry School. Misha has been a judge on the panel of music competitions such as the “You Need Music” competition and many NJ Regional and State band auditions. He has taught at The Montclair Jazz Workshop, OSPAC Jazz Camp, and has taught the Jazz Theory class at Rutgers University.

Having a Bachelor’s in Music from Rutgers University, Misha teaches by approaching the guitar pianistically from the very first lessons. Misha’s method includes an emphasis on harmony and an aural understanding of the instrument.
